Why San Francisco Makes This Harder

City living raises the stakes on separation anxiety. Shared walls mean the barking isn’t private. Dense neighborhoods mean more triggers outside the window while you’re gone.

It’s the extra pressure my San Francisco clients describe:

•  A neighbor’s complaint or a warning from the building manager

•  The knot in your stomach every time you grab your keys

•  Errands you can’t run and plans you keep canceling because your dog can’t be left

Many of my San Francisco clients come to me after a building forced the issue. If that’s where you are, you’re not alone. Separation anxiety responds to structured training, whether you’re in a Mission apartment or a house in Noe Valley.

Work With a Certified Separation Anxiety Specialist

I’m Sara Scott, a certified professional dog trainer (CPDT-KA) and certified separation anxiety behavior consultant (CSAP-BC) with 25+ years of experience. My Alone Together program is dedicated separation anxiety coaching: a personalized training plan, regular assessments, and direct support over WhatsApp as your dog learns that being alone is safe.

Want to understand the process better first? Start here: the most common separation anxiety training mistakes and why your trainer doesn’t need to watch your dog panic.

Separation Anxiety Training in San Francisco

Separation anxiety and isolation distress can make it nearly impossible for dogs to be left alone without panic. Barking, whining, destruction around doors and windows, house soiling, and escape attempts aren’t disobedience. They’re symptoms of genuine fear. Your dog isn’t giving you a hard time. They’re having a hard time.

Your journey begins with a 1:1 Zoom call. We’ll review your dog’s separation anxiety history, triggers, and daily routines. You’ll learn what separation anxiety really is, the proven desensitization methods we use, and receive immediate strategies to start using right away.

2. Join the Alone Together Program

After the consultation, you enroll in my Alone Together program. Your daily training plans come through the Be Right Back app, a platform only available through certified trainers, with personalized video feedback and direct WhatsApp access to me Monday through Friday.

3. Train Where the Problem Happens

Everything is virtual, and that’s not a compromise. It’s the professional standard for separation anxiety work. Your dog’s panic happens when they’re alone, so there’s nothing useful a trainer can observe sitting in your living room. I see how your dog actually behaves when you leave, and we adjust the plan on real data.
